Utility Project is an awesome collaboration between two well-respected LA brands: LUDWIG and Gourmet Footwear. It’s a true collaboration in the proper sense of the word, utilizing Gourmet’s popular original shoe models, paired with lovely vintage military deadstock material, sourced using the vintage expertise of LUDWIG. The end result looks incredible. Check the video for more info. Available in the LUDWIG Shop as of noon today. [Watch Video]
My buddy Ivan Jimenez (who I recently interviewed for Imprint Culture Lab) has just released his excellent Spring 13 collection for his brand Skulls Intl. The brand is going from strength to strength, continuing to drop unique, eye-catching, and original product, made right here in Los Angeles. The collection includes tees, hats, and wallets. Now available in the Skulls Intl Webstore.
I’ve just done a small run of Selector tees – the best-selling designs from last year, in new colors. The best part is they’re on new, better quality heavyweight 5.5oz shirts, with an excellent fit & feel. I also dropped the woven label, in favor of a logo hit inside the neck. Available in the online shop.
Instagram is one of the best ways to follow all the amazing art going up on the streets of Kaka’ako this week. The POW WOW HAWAII instagram page is probably your best bet, but there’s tons more out there, especially if you follow the contributing artists such as Jeff Hamada, Hannah Stouffer, Jeff Soto, Sam Rodriguez, Shark Toof, Wu Yue, and Nychos. There are tons of talented creative folks out here!
The POW WOW Hawaii website has actually been updated since I posted about the week-long artist gathering in Honolulu. It features an updated schedule, and even a Mural Map to track all the great art going up. And in related news, my friends at Knockaround will be releasing their latest Limited Edition offering, in collaboration with POW WOW, and right in time for the event (photo hijacked from Hypebeast).
Al Fingers is a British DJ/Producer who I’ve mentioned in a few blog posts about the ART IN THE DANCEHALL exhibition on this site and my Selector blog. I finally got around to checking out his mostly reggae-infused remixes and felt like they needed to be shared. Just listen to his Smokey Robinson “Being With You” Remix, for starters. All the remixes are available for download.
My friends at interTrend have helped announce the Year of the Snake with an excellent infographic, with information on how to make the most of the year, according to the zodiac. And on a related note, Imprint founder and interTrend’s CEO, Julia Huang, recently penned a column on the impact of Lunar New Year on the global economy for USA Today. [View Graphic]
I posted about POW WOW 2012 a couple of times last year, and it looked amazing – incredible artists gathering in Hawaii, to do some great work together. POW WOW 2013 starts in Honolulu tomorrow, and the line-up includes another impressive list of attending artists, including Jasper Wong, Jeff Hamada, Sam Rodriguez, Shark Toof, Hannah Stouffer, Dabs Myla, Jeff Soto, Chaz Bojorquez, and many more. Hit the link for the full list and the schedule of events.
Redbull, and their Red Bulletin magazine, present a chat about creativity, between Jeffstaple and Michael Farber. It took place at Soho House in NYC. It’s a good chance to listen to Jeff talk about the history of the brand and his start in the industry, and how far he’s come, having dropped out of school twice. I started working for him about the the 15:00min mark in the story… [Watch Video]
