T-Shirt Of The Week this week is definitely the pizza-powered Benjie Escobar “Guest Glider” tee for SF-based brand Benny Gold. And by way of an uncanny freak coincidence, I just so happen to have this tee in stock in the shop here!
Outside the Box: Hand-Drawn Packaging from Around the World by Gail Anderson is a new paperback title from Princeton Architectural Press, which explores the resurgence of hand-drawn packaging in this computer-driven era. She is a former Senior Art Director at Rolling Stone. Her beautifully laid-out monograph documents countless examples of hand-drawn designs, sorted into four main categories: DIY, Art, Craft, and Artisanal Lettering. [Read More]
Last week, I went over to The Graff Lab, near Downtown Los Angeles, to check out some of the great art in their parking lot. I was in a bit of a rush so I got a few shots of this incredible “Dangerous” mural by New Zealander Owen Dippie. I didn’t time my visit very well unfortunately, as the wall wasn’t in the sun, so I’ll have to go back again sometime. [See More]
I posted the announcement for the first ever POW! WOW! Japan about a month back, and in the meantime, several of the participating artists gathered in Shibuya to paint a mural together. Video is already out, which is impressive! Artists include Mon (Doppel), Bakibaki (Doppel), Cook One, Usugrow, Dragon76, Louise Ono, Jay Shogo, and Frankie Cihi. Enjoy.
The second installment of hip-hop-meets-hard-bop from the impressive Byrd Over Staten project by SHAOLIN JAZZ is here. This one features the animated ODB rhyming over a jazz tune from Byrd’s Slow Drag album.
This week’s T-shirt of the week is definitely this beauty from my friends at San Diego-based sunglasses powerhouse Knockaround. I love the small graphic at the front left but it’s the back where this shirt really shines – “Look at the bright side.”
I think in the midst of summer and POW! WOW! Long Beach madness, I somehow missed this great new print from artist Erik Otto (interviewed). It’s a 16 x 20 inch, 4-color wood-cut and letter press print, with blind emboss on printmaking paper and it looks absolutely incredible. Available here. [See More]
My insanely talented photographer friend Nicole Reed (who I interviewed here not too long ago) is currently crowd-funding her new 80 page photography book which focuses (see what I did there) on Hong Kong. Created together with Leigh Ryan, the book also includes a special 10″ vinyl record from Plutonic Lab. As a giant fan of both Nicole’s work, and the amazing city of Hong Kong, I can’t wait to see this come to life!
