1-2-1 with Sean “Hula” Yoro

The second talk during this year’s POW! WOW! LONG BEACH is between Jeffstaple and accomplished Hawaiian artist Sean “Hula” Yoro. Sean is best known for his painterly work situated at or just above the waterline. He’s painted all around the world including on glaciers to highlight global warming. So on Wednesday July 13th, you’ll want to join us at the Art Theatre of Long Beach for what promises to be a fascinating talk. Tickets here.

If you’re lucky enough to be in Tokyo this week, you definitely want to check out the upcoming MOJITEN 1 group exhibition opening at HHH Gallery. The line-up includes Los Angeles-based luminaries like CRYPTIK and Big Sleeps, Hawaii’s own Defer, and Japanese legend Usugrow too. That’s a lot of talent!

Sun Joint

Here is a new mixtape from NYC-based “neo soul duo” Lion Babe. Reminds me ever-so-slightly of the first Erykah Badu album, which is good. Via The Fader.

East coast artist Jerkface recently stopped in Los Angeles for a few days and blessed my friends at Hutch LA with some great work on the side of their shop located in Verdugo Village, NELA. The artwork mashes up characters from three very popular, very different animations, all with dogs. [See More]

Community Meeting

On Wednesday June 29th, we’re holding a Community Meeting about POW! WOW! Long Beach at the Expo Arts Center in Bixby Knolls. If you’re interested in the event and want to learn more, come on down! More deets here.
