Sam Rodriguez in Kobe

Here’s a great photo of the brand new Sam Rodriguez mural painted in Kobe, Japan, during this year’s POW! WOW! Japan mural festival. Epic stuff. Still can’t quite believe much of this event went down at my old high school there. Small world! Photo by Brandon Shigeta.

Nothing More To Say

This LP from Brooklyn-based rocksteady adventurers The Frightnrs has all but taken over my life. It keeps getting better and better. I’ve already posted this song – about a month or so back – but now there are matching visuals. Out now from Daptone.

TSOTW: SC.R.E.A.M.

For this very special, one-day-late installment of T-Shirt of the Week, Halloween edition, I nominate this new bootleg concert tee from the good people at DRTY. Wu-Tang fans will no doubt recognize the riff on a) Enter the 36 Chambers cover art and b) the mask from the Scream movie series. Get the paper! More info here.

13th

Netflix have been producing some amazing content lately, and this documentary about incarceration in America is well worth a watch. It deals with the US’s insanely high incarceration rate (over 4 million prisoners is the highest prison population in the world – higher than China, higher than everyone). And once they drill down into the numbers, things get even worse. It’s no secret black and brown people make up a wildly disproportionate percentage of the incarcerated people, and 13TH looks at how a small detail in the 13th Amendment essentially props up legal slavery, as criminals can be worked for little to no pay, and it’s big business. Regardless of color, many of the prisoners are locked up over trivial nonviolent drug offenses. This important social justice issue naturally overlaps with other major societal issues at the forefront today, including policing, police brutality, the fallout of slavery, institutional racism, and the Black Lives Matter movement. Not a fun watch, but a crucial one nonetheless.

Systems

Los Angeles graffiti legend Jason REVOK is set to unveil a new body of work in Downtown LA this evening, when his solo show Systems opens at Library Street Collective. It sounds like it’s pretty amazing. The gallery is located at 5428 W. Washington Blvd, and the show runs through November 12th.

Tiny Hand

The final debate for the current presidential election was last night, and I can’t wait for this thing to end. At first, it was kind of an interesting spectacle, with Trump saying the most insane things. Except some people agreed with the things he said, and actually want to vote him into office, which is rather frightening, and takes all the fun out of the whole circus as far as I’m concerned. All that said, here is a funny font called Tiny Hand modeled on Trump’s handwriting. If you wanted to download this for some reason, you can find the link at the bottom of this Buzzfeed article.
