I was lucky enough to meet Japanese artist Haroshi during POW! WOW! Hawaii 2015. He’s an incredibly talented sculptor, best known for his works created from repurposed skateboards. Here in SoCal, he’s known for working closely with skate brand HUF, amongst others. This artist profile by Magic Lanterns tours his Tokyo studio and sheds light on his process. Via Booooooom TV.

Self Starters

Check out my Hawaiian homies, Jasper Wong and Kamea Hadar, co-lead directors of the incredible POW! WOW! Hawaii and POW! WOW! Worldwide mural festivals, recently featured on the NBC Asian America presents Self-Starters program. They’re two of the best, most-talented, and hardest-working people I know. This is well-deserved. Congrats guys!

Booooooom Correspondent

So my talented friend Jeff Hamada, the really nice man who runs Booooooom, recently got invited to attend Barcelona Design Week. He can’t make it, so he’s offering up a golden chance for anyone to apply to become the official Booooooom Correspondent for the week – traveling to Spain, visiting the event, reporting back to Booooooom. Who wouldn’t want to do that? PS Barcelona is amazing.

Pedal Power

Long Beach is gearing up (see what I did there?) to unveil its brand new bike share program, woot! It’s been a few years in the making, but North America’s “most bike-friendly city” finally gets a well-deserved and eagerly-awaited bike share system. Find out more via Asia Morris at LB Post.

45 New Murals

POW! WOW! Hawaii sponsor & art print online retail powerhouse 1xRun have put together a nice recap of the 45 new murals painted around Kaka’ako, Hawaii for the recent mural festival. They’ve also posted the corresponding prints available from the participating artists, don’t miss out on those.

Happy Valentine’s Day. A century after Einstein predicted gravitational waves, some very well-funded scientists are pretty sure they’ve found proof he was right. Via NPR.

Out Of Office

Haven’t had much time at the computer in the last few days on account of all the fun at POW! WOW! Hawaii right now. It’s all going incredibly well. Many of the murals are already looking amazing. I spent most of today assisting at this particular wall being painted by Japanese artist KAMI of Hitotzuki fame. In other important news, I finally had great pizza in Hawaii too.
