Independently Animated: Bill Plympton

Just got my hands on this giant new hardcover from Rizzoli, which features the work of the King of Indie Animation, Bill Plympton. With dozens of films, several feature-length animations, and illustrations printed in the Village Voice, New York Times, Vogue, Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair, and Penthouse under his belt, it’s easy to see how he laid claim to the title. He even illustrates every scene in his animated features by hand. Matt Groening, creator of The Simpsons and Futurama refers to Plympton as “God”. Independently Animated tells the story of Bill’s life and career, padded out with a generous amount of his art, including frames from his film work, unreleased sketches, notes, and more.
