I just got my hands on an advance copy of Ripped: T-shirts from the Underground from Rizzoli, which is an impressive guide to underground music shirts spanning from Elvis Presley to Run DMC and just about everything in between, with an emphasis on 70s and 80s Punk, and Post-Punk. The vintage collection was edited by Cesar Padilla, the owner of NYC’s Cherry boutique. There is a foreword by Lydia Lunch, and some of the tees also feature a paragraph from the artist or a band member of the group in question, including quotes from the likes of Thurston Moore, and Richard Kern. If you are interested in design and music and T-shirts, and therefore especially band tees, like me, this will surely fit nicely onto your bookshelf if you can finally stop drooling and put it away. Paperback / 8″ x 10″ / 208 pages / 108 color photos. Out in March.
