The Day the Music Died

Fifty years ago today a plane famously crashed, tragically killing the pilot, The Big Bopper, Ritchie Valens, and of course, Buddy Holly. Don McLean coined the term “The Day the Music Died” about that event in his 1971 hit song “American Pie,” which still seems to get a lot of play on classic rock radio, nearly 40 years after the song was released.
